Using a glossary

Sometimes a book also has a glossary at the beginning or the end.  This gives short explanations of specialised or difficult terms used in the book.  The following is an example is from a book about the moon.

GLOSSARY Albedo        Asteroid   Mare Satellite Sputnik 1

in astronomy, the reflective property of planets a small rocky object found mainly in a belt or flat ring between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars; also called a minor planet because it is so small (the largest are only 200 km across). a large flat plain on the moon caused by lava flows and marked by ridges, depressions and faults; all 14 maria are on the side of the moon that faces Earth. a natural (e.g. moon) or artificial (e.g. spacecraft) object that orbits around a larger astronomical body. the first artificial satellite, which was launched into space to orbit around the Earth in 1957.

Term 2 Review

I have learnt to confidently read a book by my self and be able to answer  questions about the book.

I learnt in writing how to write paragraph. when writing about persuasive texts.

I learnt in speeches how to write a speech to persuade people and present the speech to the teacher and the class.

I learnt in maths how to divide,plus,minus and times numbers.I have learnt fractions.

I learnt in topic about schools,past,present and future and about technology planning. I chose to look at desks and chairs to redo and to make better.

Something else I have learnt this term is Orienteering this is how to use a map and follow the map to know where I am going.

1 thing I found easy was colouring and making the line straight.

1 thing I found hard is all Information is in the same boxes.

I like how my final design looks like the original because I made petals the same size.

Next time I would take time and make sure the boxes are the same and it is even.

in what language

would I work at it

would I be able to alter it

possibly there arent many

it could be that there’s only some word

Akansha Uniform

Uniform

Students don’t want to wear uniforms to school and I agree with students with them not wanting to wear school uniform.

Students don’t want to wear uniform because when they play games at lunchtimes their uniforms will get muddy ,dirty and messy. This is because the playground is muddy and it is wet, so if you wore your own home clothes to school then it would be easier for your parents to clean them as you would be able to pick new clothes rather than in a hurry cleaning your uniform.

Students don't want to wear uniform because students want to come in their normal clothes from home. When we play games we will become sweaty and feel hot in the uniform. So the uniform will smell bad in class. If students could bring a change of home clothes to school it would stop the smell.  

Students like to wear their own clothes from home as they don't have to go home and change after school. This means they can go straight to town to buy things rather than mucking around and wasting time. Also means that when they get home students can do homework faster as its one less thing to do.

At the end of the day school uniform is annoying and  gets dirty, muddy and looks ugly.

So that's why wearing home clothes is better than wearing school uniform.
